Reading the odds formats you will encounter

Negative Malay odds cause the most confusion because the sign means the opposite of what people assume from American odds. A negative Malay line is the underdog price: you stake a fraction of a unit for a full unit of profit. Set your account to decimal odds until the conversion is automatic for you — comparison is far harder in any other format.
Calculating the margin yourself
The bookmaker's margin — the overround, or "vig" — is built into the prices. You can extract it in seconds and it is the most useful number on the page.
Convert every outcome in a market to implied probability with 1 ÷ decimal odds, then add them up. A fair market sums to 1.00 (100%). Anything above that is the margin.
Worked example on a three-way football market priced at 2.10 / 3.40 / 3.60:
- 1 ÷ 2.10 = 0.476
- 1 ÷ 3.40 = 0.294
- 1 ÷ 3.60 = 0.278
- Total = 1.048, so the margin is about 4.8%.
Run this on the markets you actually bet. Margins vary widely: major-league match-result markets are usually the tightest, while niche leagues, exotic props and in-play markets carry substantially more. Betting into a high-margin market means you need a much larger edge in judgement simply to break even.
Accumulators multiply the margin too
Combining selections multiplies the odds, which is why accumulators look attractive. It also multiplies the margin. A four-fold built from legs each carrying about 5% margin compounds to roughly 20% against you before any judgement about the outcomes is applied.
